Slights and Bruises
03:18
|
|||
All the slights and bruises
On the way down out
Have left you tired, listless
Tossed about
And the last small drop of poison
On the edge
Will take you down, boy,
You can guess
Some of us seek love over control
Fumbling blind, hoping to find kindred souls
And the side wind of the storm
can make it hard to aim straight
But it must be done
And the pull of darkness can be great
but nothing survives the merciless fire of hate
Let lightness linger when it’s found
And choose love when love is around
Mercy loosens up its jealous grip
And wishes those we’ve lost a gentle trip
Use yourself to know how you would treat
The ones who fall beside you in defeat
Let lightness linger when it’s found
Choose love when love is around.

On Moving
03:58
|
|||
This damn rainy weather will carry me away
Out from the safety of our love
Packed in the back are all my stupid things
I’ve always been too fond of
Strange how many years
Can disappear with the close of a door
And how a sacred space can
Be a home you’ll never return to again
Well so long my angel we failed in our dream
Of sculpting a refuge around us
But as people grow they often grow apart
Until cracks appear in their fortress
And pieces left in me
The warmth of your hands your body I know
Vanish like a dream in one quick arc
Our love has been blown away
And so like a pirate, I’ll steal away
Pushed from the gangplank of our love
I’ll arm wrestle sadness and do what I can
To accomplish constant distraction
And I will limp through days
And watch as your smile fades from my mind
And just as everything, our love will fade
To shadows stretching through time

Crawl your way out from the quagmire
Make your way now toward to the shoreline
Precious gold commodity
Time is rusting all your sensibilities
Down from the un-sculpted wayside
Formless hands can’t feel the choke line
With clay wheel and bitter hue
The sculptress will master and subdue you
And I burn while the cold side has it made
And my turn I passed along the way
Watch me in tumbledown mode
Hemmed in by the crust of this corrosion
Fight your way out from the slow line
Leave the shadowed hinterlands for all time
Clay man set to stride between the hills and
Valley ways of his life
Kick the ladders down from the high place
Clear the dust and spider webs from your face
The clacking wheels and machinery
Skirt the borderlands of this catastrophe
And I burn while the cold side has it made
Another turn seems up along the way
And with bitter hue and medicine
We’ll shake away the crust of this corrosion

Odd Season of the Heart
03:23
|
|||
There among all the shadowed houses
Withers one who dynamited reason in the service of a dream
With vague potential still unseen
Underneath all the weight of what
Was issued from the lips of one whose
Promises were whimsical and heedlessly designed
Bathed in silence there are two springs
You can choose from
There is one that is bleakness
While the other one is bright
Which one will you drink from tonight?
All the thresholds and all the ways and wonders
While sometimes not a movement but a passage through a fire
In this odd season of the heart
And the color, weight and shape, time and placement of your dream
They are somewhere that you cannot quite conceive of just now
And the promiser has changed, discontinued the agreed upon equations and has pushed you from the car
They will falter or go far
While some brightness lifts you out from your burrow
You are graced by such a clarity you had not known before
In this odd season of the heart
And it all had been there from the start

Space Shaped in Time
03:28
|
|||
Saw you in a dream
You were standing in a haze
Suddenly you vanished
I was running through a maze
Every turn a glimpse of you
Before you move away
It’s the same when I
Awaken and rise
Back from all the tournaments
Of nothing to avail
You were chasing something
Turned out not to be real
Morning glow and fever
Have left you weak and pale
It’s okay we all make
Such mistakes that's how it goes
Lately days are measured
By the ache I feel for you
Even knowing better still
The yearning filters through
You were cold, deceiving
If not outright untrue
Still I crave our withered days
Somehow
We built shaky structures
On foundations of our dreams
Couldn't find the pathways back
From what we’d thought we’d seen
When we realized we were
mistaken in our schemes
We turned to find a vast landscape
Overgrown.
I will take you with me through the
Trial of my days
Harbor all these images
Of our moments and ways
I will always wonder if you
Similarly crave
The space that we shaped
In time.

Scour the Land
03:09
|
|||
Scour the land
And raze to the ground
Whatever grows or breathes
If it interferes
Or does not adhere
To the model we conceived
Tethered in grids
And moving in lines
Dispirited and possessed
Tortured by sounds
And the dullness of towns
Built round the of purchase
And if it is a game
How far have we come
And what may I ask
Is the score
The science abounds
But the details profound
Keep making predictions
A chore.
And whether master and slave
Or slave to the “I”
We’re still all kinds of stuck
Yet we hold to the wheel
And make endless appeals
To the meandering spirit
Of luck
And who do we blame
And how do we cope
Complicit forceful and grim
As we push through the maze
Of our beige colored days
And try not to whither and dim
